"You thought I was a little girl, you thought I was a little mouse.
You thought you'd take me by surprise. . . now I'm here burning down your house."
- Not My Idea, Garbage

Hera

The queen of the Olympian deities and was worshipped as the goddess of marriage and birth. Hera is the most beautiful of all immortals, even more beautiful than Aphrodite.

. . . and that's just the name. ;-)

Why I Went to The Woods
    H.D. Thoreau
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and to be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion.

in china, there is no blog - part 1

you'd have to forgive my sudden disappearance, mary jane. i do feel guilty with these long, unexcused absences without even a small note to let you know where i've gone to. truth is, i haven't really gone anywhere. not yet.

a week after i had the occasional "attack" involving the grief about my life not going anywhere else but down, i gave myself a good kick on the shins, good enough to wake me up and start sending out my resume like a desperate whore. and so pimp myself i did. and a week after that, someone answered--a hong kong employer who manufactures and retails toys. i was ecstatic and almost did a double loop when i got the invitation for an interview. i was set out to get the job, fight for it, flail myself into the ravine, teeth bared and guns blazing. and the employer, notorious for being strict and demanding (read: a slavedriver), liked this fighting spirit of mine, shining now more than ever. i have been polishing it for this kind of occasion.

and so. shenzen, china. who knows what's in store for me in this foreign city with its gleaming buildings, streamed roads and windows of the world? in 34 days, i'll find out.

for now, i have to know how the heck i could access blogs from there. a friend who stays in a nearby city said it's impossible. that, i think is the beginning of the sad part of this good news.

    Hera,

Good luck! You have to go to hongkong proper to blog! (Which is only a train ride away). Mainland's strict internet policy doesn't apply in Hongkong. :)

guy-- thanks! i know you're the "guy" to ask when it comes to this stuff. i'll keep in touch. :)

gab3-- yeah, with their booming population they have to resort to such inhumane solutions. tsk! tsk!

pag di ako nagkaanak in the future, aampunin kita. hehe.

fortunately i don't have to learn mandarin or cantonese. or maybe at least "shi" or "xie xie" or learning to say "i want to eat siopao and siomai" are enough. :D

anonymous-- thanks! i have thought of xanga. kaya lang di ata ganon ka ganda yung blogs don. but i'll find a way.

yayam-- thanks! i have to. blogging keeps me sane. and i would need it especially there where i can't talk to the people.

"The Chinese gov't is playing big brother and is controlling..."

hera, do you have to learn the language when you get there? you know, read and write those intricately woven characters?

Yes, that's what I heard. The Chinese gov't is playing big brother and is controlling the contents that goes in and out of China's cyberspace.

But there are some singaporean bloggers working in China who have found a loophole.

BTW, my email addy is rsl_61@yahoo.com.ph

gab - sigh. for me, the saddest part is not being able to publish my "letters". it's that i may no longer be able to visit your blogs.

corsarius - thanks! if ever i really won't be able to access blogs from there, i will find a way to contact you. you have become a great personal friend after all.

MB - "kung gusto, maraming paraan. kung ayaw, maraming dahilan". so ibig sabihin ba nito dadalaw ka talaga don?

guy - thanks. yes, there will be internet connection. but for some reason, they can't access blogs. that's what my friend says. maybe you can help me once i get there. i'll get your email add ha. :)

bing - yes, this really is the beginning. i'm so excited already. :)

Wow! Congrats and good luck on the new job hera. Good news is that there is internet connection in that part of China, especially in an industrial city like Shenzen. Don't worry, your blogging days isn't over yet. :-)

    maraming malulungkot.

    bagong plantsang mukha ay gusot.

    mahirap magsalita.

    isang buwan na paalam.

    ingat! - ay kulang.

wow! hera, congratulations! i am so happy for you. (the job, of course -- the blog-accessibility part's making me sad).

you mentioned weeks past in my blog that you feel like i'm a personal friend of yours (or lil bro :P). well, it's my turn to return that -- as your personal friend ang blog-brother, i wish you good luck and a safe stay in the middle kingdom. they better be prepared for our version of a queen!

take care, hera. when you do have blog-access, just drop a word or two -- the Net is the great dissipator of the thousands of miles separating you from your blog-family.
